Over the course of this past week, I researched many specific strategies that sports analysts use to make them successful. I found that collecting data of what players did against certain teams in previous years can help to create a hypothesis on how that player will do versus those teams and one on one matchups for upcoming games. I also learned that in order to be able to evaluate players and teams effectively you have to have a good understanding of the game of football. By taking more important aspects of a season or game, I learned that it gives you a better chance of predicting the outcome. Compiling one player's strengths and weaknesses and comparing them to another player's strengths and weaknesses can help you to predict the better matchup for that week.
In using these strategies, I was able to select the right players to win my matchup this week. By analyzing this week's matchups, I was able to successfully select most of the right players. For example, I chose A.J. Green because of the lack of depth and star players in the Packers' secondary. Although I was able to win versus my opponent this week, there were some matchups that I did not correctly pick. For example, I did not use Jordan Howard because I did not think he would be effective because of an injury he was playing through. Even though I did not make a correct hypothesis on two of my teams nine matchups, I was still able to successfully get nine right and defeat my opponent. Looking ahead to next week's matchups, I have a variety of decisions to make regarding my team. One of these decisions is if I would rather start Kirk Cousins versus Kansas City's feared secondary or Ben Roethlisberger versus the Ravens feared pass rush. I may end up picking Kirk Cousins because Ben Roethlisberger has a history of not playing well versus the rival Ravens. Another decision that I will have to make is if I would rather start the Jaguars defense or the Texans defense. I would probably lean toward the Jaguars defense because the have a much easier task in defending the Jets offense rather than the Texans defense against the Titans offense. Next week I will discuss my choices and how the matchups turned out.

For my genius hour project, I am going to analyze my fantasy football team's performance for twelve weeks in the same way that an NFL sports analyst would. I will research the career of a NFL sports anaylist and see what makes them successful and what makes them unsuccessful. I will then take this data I have gathered from research and use it to the best of my ability to analyze strategies and formations to achieve the best win to loss ratio. I will use the information I have put together from players, matchups and coaching staffs to achieve the greatest results. My goal is to use all the information and analysis of these players to win ten games or
more. First I will start by researching how analysts collect this information and put it to use. By figuring out how analysts do their jobs successfully and with little failure, I will be able to use this in my pursuit to becoming an NFL sports analyst. I will then use these techniques I have learned and put them to the test by trying to win ten games in fantasy football. I will then use everything I have learned to be compile information and use it at a high level to make my fantasy football team successful. By compiling this information and using the techniques that I researched, I will perfect my ability from week to week in analyzing football games and players. Within each week, I will analyze each team's strengths and weaknesses, as well as deal with team match ups & individual player's injuries. By understanding each team's strengths and weaknesses I will be able to estimate how well certain players will do against those teams. Depending on length and severity of injuries that players have sustained I can determine when that player will be available and how that injury can cost that team in an upcoming game. Evaluating team match ups can help me better understand how specific players will play versus one another and which one will more likely prevail. I am looking forward to analyzing the upcoming weeks of football and perfecting the way I evaluate and rate team' s success. |
